Stricker's collapse difficult to watch

January 26, 2009 By WRN Contributor

Steve Stricker is one of the all-time good guys in professional golf.  That's what made yesterday (Sunday) tough to watch.  Stricker fired rounds of 61 and 62 on Friday and Saturday and started the 5th and final round of the PGA Tour's Bob Hope Classic on Sunday with a 3-shot lead over Pat Perez.  But Stricker had a triple bogey on No. 7 and a quadruple bogey on No. 10, hitting into the water on both holes.  That turned into a 77 and a 3rd place tie with Mike Weir.

Stricker's collapse allowed Pat Perez to re-gather himself and take a lead he would never give up.  Perez finished with a 3-under par 67 to close out at 33-under for the tournament.  He pockets $918,000 for the win, while Stricker settles for $295,800.
