Bar fight nets felony murder charge

February 9, 2009 By WRN Contributor

A 43-year-old Neillsville man is dead after a bar fight; now a Shawano man faces a new charge.

Clark County District Attorney Darwin Zwieg amended the charges against 36-year-old Tyler Meier from Aggravated Battery and Disorderly Conduct to Felony Murder-Battery after an autopsy revealed 43-year-old Keith Young died of traumatic head injuries due to a fall caused by the assault.

Zwieg was convinced Meier had no intent to kill Young after the two argued briefly at the Brickyard Bar and Grill Sunday, February 1. Felony Murder-Battery carries a 24-year maximum prison sentence.

Young was hospitalized in critical condition for two days before he was pronounced dead on Tuesday, February 3.

Meier is scheduled to be back in Clark County Court on Wednesday for an initial appearance. He is currently free after family members posted his $20,000 cash bond on Friday.
