Doyle clarifies toll road statements

February 19, 2009 By WRN Contributor

Governor Doyle is clarifying his stance on toll roads.

In comments made to a Milwaukee newspaper this week, Governor Doyle indicated a willingness to consider creating toll roads to help fund future transportation needs. However, the governor on Thursday stressed that it won't happen anytime soon. Doyle says he's made no proposals to create tolls on Wisconsin roads and has no plans to do so.

Doyle says lower levels of fuel consumption may require changes many years down the road. He says it's something states may have to consider as gasoline tax revenues decline, removing a major source of revenue for transportation funding.
