Horizon League race tightens

February 19, 2009 By WRN Contributor

Butler's second straight loss has tightened the race at the top of the Horizon League and with two games left, the Green Bay Phoenix are just a game behind the Bulldogs.

Butler fell to the Panthers in Milwaukee, 63-60 as Avery Smith scored 13 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to lead the Panthers.  That's back to back losses for the Bulldogs, who also lost at Loyola on Sunday.  The last time Butler lost back to back games was 3-years ago.  That's a span of 111 games.

In Green Bay, the Phoenix knocked off Valparaiso 76-61 as all five starters scored in double figures, led by Terry Evans 17 points.  Green Bay improved to 12-4 in the Horizon League and now trails Butler (13-3) by just 1-game with two left to play.
