Lac Courte Oreilles man's death likely due to exposure

February 11, 2009 By WRN Contributor

Police in Sawyer County say a man whose body was found Tuesday appears to have died from exposure. The body of Frank Crone of Lac Courte Oreilles was found in a field in the town of Hayward, about 75 feet from Highway B, near a storage building at Round Lake.

The Lac Courte Oreilles Tribal Police Department and the Sawyer County Sheriffs Department said Tuesday that the death remains under investigation but appears to be from exposure. Crone was a student at the LCO Community College and a member of the Lac Courte Oreilles Badger Drum.

If Crone's death is ruled as due to exposure, it would be the second exposure death in Sawyer County in the last two months. On January 13, sheriff's deputies found the body of a 51 year-old man who had been sleepwalking. Temperatures were in the twenty below range at the time.
