Funding for education continues to be a priority for Governor Doyle. However, there may be limits to what he can do.
Governor Doyle says efforts to prevent cuts to education are facing increased scrutiny, with a projected state budget deficit now approaching $6 billion. Doyle says public schools and the university system have to be a part of the solution and they can't expect big increases in his upcoming state budget.
Still, Doyle says he's not willing to cut funding to the point that education is jeopardized.
The Governor is scheduled to announce his plans next week for coping with a growing state budget deficit.
