Highway murder goes to trial

March 4, 2009 By WRN Contributor

A judge bound Michael Haydon over on homicide and robbery charges after a jailhouse snitch said Haydon confessed last year to killing a highway truck driver. Portage County DA Tom Eagon calls their informant is a reliable source.

But Haydon's attorney Len Kachinsky has doubts about the state's witnesses. Kachinsky claims his client is innocent in the November 2003 shooting death of Pat Zemke on a highway off-ramp near Mosinee.

Haydon is now charged with robbery in addition to the homicide, accused of stealing Zemke's wallet.

He's pleaded not guilty to both charges. Future court dates will be set in mid-April.
