State Hockey Semifinals on tap tonight

Jason Kalin The WIAA State Hockey Quarterfinals were played Thursday at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison.

Arrowhead opened the tournament with a 4-0 win over Onalaska.  David Clark scored two goals and had an assist and goaltender Nick Kohn had his ninth shutout this season, improving to 19-5 on the year.  Arrowhead will move on to face Superior in tonight's semifinals.

Superior scored four times in the final five minutes to beat Stoughton 4-1.  The Spartans (17-7) got goals from four different players and Pat Dalbec added three assists.  Stoughton fell to 20-2-2 with the loss.  Superior, coached by Jason Kalin (pictured) has won a record 12 state titles.

In the third quarterfinal, Fond du Lac got two goals from Bo Bartelt to lead the Cardinals to a 6-3 win over Stevens Point.  Fond du Lac improved to 19-3-2 on the season.  Stevens Point ends its campaign at 19-5.  The Cardinals will face Rice Lake in tonight's second semifinal game.

Junior forward Trae Coleman got the games only goal to lead Rice Lake to a 1-0 quarterfinal win over Verona.  Rice Lake (18-6) ended Verona's (20-3-1) 12-game winning streak.
