De Pere's Johnson stepping down

April 10, 2009 By WRN Contributor

After nine seasons, De Pere girls basketball coach Dave Johnson is stepping down to spend more time with his family.  The decision comes less than a month after Johnson led the Redbirds to the semifinal round of the WIAA Division 1 State Girls Basketball Tournament.

De Pere went 164-25 under Johnson, winning six regional championships and three sectional titles with three trips to the state tournament.  Ten of Johnson's former players have gone on to play college basketball.  Johnson leaves with his Redbird girls holding a 57-game home winning streak.
