Debate over a bag ban

April 22, 2009 By WRN Contributor

A proposed ban on plastic grocery bags in Wisconsin is facing an uncertain future.

The measure was introduced in the Legislature by state Representative Marlin Schneider (D-Wisconsin Rapids), who says they're a blight on the landscape and are clogging landfills. However, Assembly Natural Resources Committee chairman Spencer Black doubts a ban would pass, even if his committee approves the bill.'

Black says he's not a fan of plastic bags, but he believes improving recycling programs for them might be better than a bag ban.
