Murder in Sun Prairie

April 2, 2009 By WRN Contributor

Police in the normally quiet Madison suburb of Sun Prairie have a man is in custody, after a neighbor was found dead Wednesday in the parking lot of the apartment complex where they both lived.

Police spokesman Rem Brandt said 24-year-old Zachary Charles Schams confessed to killing 31-year-old Anthony Edlbeck when he was questioned by detectives. No motive for the killing has been determined, and Brandt didn't release any information on how Edlbeck died.

Schams was treated for an injury before being jailed. Police were dispatched to the scene when Schams called for ambulance, which is standard practice in Sun Prairie. Investigators say there is a history of threats between the Schams and the victim. It's not clear how well they knew each other. Edlbeck was stabbed multiple times, according to the Dane County Coroner.
