Packers deal long snapper to Carolina

April 14, 2009 By WRN Contributor

It's not very often that a long snapper gets you a draft choice in a trade, but that's the potential scenario for the Green Bay Packers .

The Packers were going to release J.J. Jansen, and Carolina was said to be among a few teams that were interested in acquiring him.  Because Jansen would likely get claimed off of waivers before Carolina would get a chance at him, the Panthers worked a trade with the Packers for a conditional future draft pick.

The Charlotte Observer is reporting that pick to be a 7th rounder in 2011.

The Packers had signed Brett Goode after Jansen went down with a season ending knee injury in the final preseason game.  Goode performed so well that he's won the job permanently.
