Recount in Manitowoc mayoral race

April 9, 2009 By WRN Contributor

There will be a recount in the election for mayor of Manitowoc. "My campaign is still mulling over some of the options, but it's our intention that we are going to request a recount," said Dave Soeldner . The 39 year-old business owner lost by fifteen votes to winning candidate and fellow alderman, 22 year-old Justin Nickels .

"This election was just so close," said Soeldner. "Fifteen votes out of more than 9400 cast. I just think it's responsible campaign management to request the recount. This isn't an attempt to prolong the effort or deny what the voters actually intended. In fact it's an effort to verify what they intended." The Manitowoc city clerk says the recount should start Monday or Tuesday and take at least two days to complete.
