An audit of the Milwaukee Public School system shows the need for some serious reforms, according to Mayor Tom Barrett.
The report highlights over $100 million in wasteful spending by MPS. It also highlights six-figure salaries and overpaid benefits for dozens of employees. Barrett says there are plenty of problems identified in the study that the public has a right to be angry about.
Mayor Barrett says the independent review underscores the need to make changes that address serious long-term financial problems. He says the school system can't survive without state and local leaders joining together to identify ways to make the system more efficient.
The Mayor says there's still hope for salvaging the state's largest school system.
