Tornado season

April 21, 2009 By WRN Contributor

Tornado (Photo: Earth Science) With up ten inches of snow in Northern Wisconsin Monday night, it may be hard to believe its Tornado Awareness Week.

Lori Getter, Wisconsin Emergency Management spokeswoman, says be prepared with an emergency weather kit including flashlights, water and first aid. She highly recommends a NOAA weather radio with batteries. These portable radios broadcast directly from the nearest National Weather Service office. Because tornados can happen anytime including bedtime hours, Getter says these weather radios can help overcome that challenge by sounding the alerts that may wake you and your family.

New NOAA weather radios allow for customizing of certain areas, so the owners will only receive severe weather alerts in their vicinity.
