Madison manhunt ends

May 20, 2009 By WRN Contributor

For several hours Tuesday officers and deputies from several local agencies combed a neighborhood on Madison's west side looking for Steven Weber, the man wanted for the murder of his ex-wife this past weekend. Officers sectioned off streets keeping residents from their homes and telling those at home to remain in their homes during the manhunt.

Police Spokesman Joel Despain says officers came across a body in Hoyt Park, around 7 PM, matching Weber's description.

"It does appear to be the subject we're looking for. It appears he died of a self inflicted gunshot wound," says Despain.

Arial DeBrew was working in Hoyt Park when officers told her she had to leave. Police didn't tell her "anything" other than there is an armed suspect in park. Debrew says everything happened so quickly, she dropped what she was doing and walked home. It wasn't until then that she realized the seriousness of the situation.

Police are awaiting positive ID from the coroner.
