Statewide smoking ban support grows

May 12, 2009 By WRN Contributor

A UW doctor is applauding the Legislature for moving to adopt a smoking ban.

Doctor Pat Remington of the UW School of Medicine has been lobbying for passage of the ban for years, and he's optimistic now that lawmakers are set to vote on the bill on Wednesday. Remington says most of the public support the measure and the bill still allows smokers to go outside and light up.

Remington says, with the public behind a statewide ban for quite awhile, it's just been a matter of dragging legislators along on the issue. He says that appears to be the case now, with approval of the ban likely on Wednesday.
