Weeks leads Brewers past Pirates

May 5, 2009 By WRN Contributor

Rickie Weeks clubbed a tiebreaking, three-run homer in the 9th last night to send the Milwaukee Brewers to their 16th straight win over the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Ryan Braun tied the game in the 8th with a 2-run double, then after the Pirates took a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the 8th, Weeks went deep in the top of the 9th, giving the Brewers a 7-4 win.  The Brewers scored six runs in the final two innings.

The 16 consecutive wins by the Brewers over the Pirates, is the longest winning streak in the majors by one team against another since the Diamondbacks took 16 in a row from the Reds from 2001-03.

Braun underwent an MRI in Milwaukee earlier in the day, then flew to Pittsburgh, arrived at the game in the second inning and entered in the 8th.

Mark DeFelice picked up the win in relief to improve to 3-0.  Trevor Hoffman earned his 4th save in as many chances.  The Brewers close out their brief two-game series with the Pirates tonight.
