Democrats asked to rethink a tax on investors

June 19, 2009 By WRN Contributor

A big increase in the capital gains tax approved by state Senate Democrats this week is an invitation for people to "hit the road."

That's the view of James Buchen with Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce. He says it could accelerate the number of wealthy individuals leaving Wisconsin because of high taxes.

The measure would increase the tax by nearly $500,000, directing the money to help fund transportation projects.

Buchen says WMC is urging a legislative conference committee on the budget to nix the measure.
