Slain teen Madison's first murder of '09

June 10, 2009 By WRN Contributor

A teenager is Madison's first homicide victim of 2009. Madison police have identified the victim of Tuesday night's fatal shooting on the city's crime plagued southwest side as 17 year-old Karamee Collins, Junior.

According to a police report , detectives do not believe Collins' death was a random crime. The teen was shot in the 2000 block of Leland Drive and ran 50-75 yards before collapsing.

The murder came just a day after police appealed to the public for help in a rash of nine shootings this year that resulted in three people being injured. Most of those shootings occurred in the same general area where Collins was gunned down, although police do not believe the murder was related to the other shootings. The coroner's office says an autopsy on Collins' body is scheduled for today.
