A central Wisconsin man is getting ready for another extraordinary journey.
56-year-old Tom Kingsbury of Loyal is preparing to tour Wisconsin on his specially made recumbent bicycle, all in an effort to raise money and awareness for a Persian Gulf Veterans Tribute at The High Ground in Neillsville.
Kingsbury plans to leave on July 31st in the early morning. He hopes to travel nearly 1,500 miles over 10 days.
During the tour, Kingsbury will make special stops at several communities that have lost residents in the Persian Gulf wars. A flag will be presented to each community that has lost a soldier.
Kingsbury's journey will take him all over Wisconsin, with stops as far north as Ashland and as far south as the Illinois border. The idea came to him last year during the annual High Ground Bicycle tour. It is inspired by another special tour by the veterans' park founder, Tom Miller.
Long bike trips are nothing new for Kingsbury. Back in 2006, he and a teammate pedaled over 3,000 miles across the United States in the Race Across America.
