Brakes on Cash for Clunkers

July 31, 2009 By WRN Contributor

It looks like the brakes have been hit on the Gas for Guzzlers car program. The brand new program that allows drivers to trade in less fuel efficient cars to dealers has been suspended or has it?

As of early Friday morning, Bill Sepic, President of the Wisconsin Auto and Truck Dealers Association , says he's heard conflicting reports that the program has been suspended or is just being reviewed.

The program gives $4,500 tax free credit to participating consumers. The word from Washington is the money has dried up from higher than anticipated response.
WATDA's understanding is Cash for Clunkers deals made before midnight Thursday to Friday morning can be honored.

Other reports say the White House is looking at ways to extend funding for the Clunkers program.
