Brewers Host St. Louis…Braun in Hot Water

July 7, 2009 By WRN Contributor

The Brewers open up a six game homestand with three games against the NL Central Leading Cardinals tonight at Miller Park. The Brewers trail the Cardinals by 1 games in the division heading into the series opener tonight.  The Brewers are 5-5 over their last ten games and lost their division lead, but Ken Macha isn't pushing the panic button yet. The Brewers pitching staff has struggled over the last few weeks, and All-Star Ryan Braun knows that GM Doug Melvin is doing his best to get the team some help. Yovani Gallardo gets the start tonight against the Cardinals Adam Wainwright.

Prince Fielder has been selected to represent the National League in the Home Run Derby next week at the All-Star Game in St. Louis.  The Cardinals Albert Pujols, San Diego's Adrian Gonzalez, and the Phillies Ryan Howard round out the NL squad.

Brewers GM Doug Melvin is apparently upset with Ryan Braun for making comments about the team's pitching after Sunday's loss to the Cubs.  Braun basically said Melvin needed to go out and get some pitching help to make the Brewers legitimate contenders.  Melvin told the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel on Monday that Braun's statements were inappropriate.
