July 16, 2009 By WRN Contributor

59 year old Tom Watson held the lead for most of the day after an opening round 5-under par 65 at the British Open , but Miguel Angel Jiminez now tops the leaderboard after a 6-under par 64.  Jiminez has a 1-shot lead on Watson and Ben Curtis.

Steve Stricker took advantage of the sunny, calm conditions and shot a 4-under par 66.  Stricker birdied 17 and 18 to move 4-under par.

Tiger Woods struggled on day 1.  He's at 1-over par 71.
