Bus with Special Olympians crashes

August 4, 2009 By Brian Moon

A group of Special Olympians received quite a scare early Tuesday morning as they were involved in bus crash on Highway 151 near Waupan. A tire blew out and the bus tipped over. Kelly Kloepping, Special Olympics Wisconsin spokesperson, says the athletes suffered minor scrapes and bumps along with some broken ribs and a broken vertabrae.

She says the athletes were in good hands given the situation.

“I can’t think of a better group of coaches to have to really pull the team together,” says Kloepping.

As many as 30 athletes were on the bus which was coming back from games in Nebraska. Eight people were reportedly hurt with the bus drivers suffering more severe injuries.  The crash remains under investigation.
