Man drowns in Madison

August 6, 2009 By WRN Contributor

A hot August afternoon turns to tragedy on a Madison lake. Madison police Sergeant Kelly Donahue says sheriff's department divers recovered the body of a 50 year-old homeless man.

Police were called to the scene on Lake Monona just after 3:30 Wednesday afternoon. Donahue says the area where the drowning occurred, near the Monona Terrace Convention Center, not typically known as a beach area, but on a hot afternoon it's not uncommon for people to be in the water.

Divers recovered the man's body last night. His name hasn't been released.
