Pedestrian killed on LCO Reservation is 2nd this month

August 21, 2009 By WRN Contributor

For the second time in three weeks, a member of northern Wisconsin’s Lac Courte Oreilles tribe has been struck and killed. Lac Courte Oreilles police and the Sawyer County Sheriff’s Department are investigating the death of a man who was hit by a vehicle Thursday morning.

The victim, identified as 42 year-old LCO tribal member Dennis Miller, was found by officers who were called to a residence on Round Lake School Road at about 3:23 a.m. Miller was dead when officers arrived. His body was taken to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s office in St. Paul for autopsy. The name of the driver has not been released and the incident remains under investigation.

Miller’s is the second early morning death of a pedestrian on the reservation this month. On Sunday, August 2, 47 year-old Cynthia Gordon was struck as she walked along Sawyer County County Highway K at around 2:30 a.m. Gordon died at Hayward Area Memorial Hospital, and the driver has been charged with homicide by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle.
