Police intern busted for phony arrests

August 7, 2009 By WRN Contributor

A Madison police intern had quite the lesson in how arrests are made, considering he was the suspect. Just after midnight Samuel Lehman was downtown when he came upon three men on N. Frances Street, by Langdon Street.

The 20-year-old pulled out his intern badge, told the guys he was an undercover cop, used his hand to pretend it was a gun, and ordered them to the ground. Lehman pulled out his phone to order backup. After grabbing one of the men, and telling him not to move, he later let them all three go, saying they were ‘lucky this time.’

Not so lucky is Lehman, who was drunk, and who was arrested by real officers a short time later. It’s likely his internship will end.
