Preparing for H1N1

August 9, 2009 By WRN Contributor

Flu season takes on added concerns this year. Plan on getting flu shots in the coming weeks, is the recommendation from St. Mary’s epidemiologist Ellen Smith. Smith says the first will be for regular seasonal influenza.

“Hopefully those vaccines will be available a little bit earlier this year, usually that will start in September, October, they’re hoping maybe they can get some of that out towards the end of August,” says Smith, adding that will “clear the decks, so to speak, so we can start with the new H1N1 vaccine that will be available, hopefully, in October.”

Experts are saying you might need TWO of those shots to protect against H1N1, or swine flu.
