Supervisors facing recall in Monroe County

October 20, 2009 By Bob Hague

A big building project has Monroe County supervisors facing a recall election today. Opponents of a new, $27 million criminal justice center in Sparta say the county simply can’t afford the project right now. Dennis Clinard chaires the Monroe County Taxpayers Relief Committee.

But Supervisor Jim Kuhn says, the longer they wait, the more the project will end up costing county taxpayers.

Kuhn and seven other supervisors who voted for the project are targeted for recall, as is the county board chair, on November 3rd. Kuhn says the core group of opponents has opposed similar proposals going back for at least the last nine years, when he began his service on the board.
