Bell ringer braves cold, long hours

December 17, 2009 By WRN Contributor

Helen McCombe continued a marathon of bell ringing for the Salvation Army today in Hudson after beginning early Wednesday. The goal is to raise 30-thousand dollars in 30 hours. Hours before her 11 am deadline she had raised just short of 25-thousand dollars and believed she would meet her mark.

McCombe began volunteering four years ago because she saw a need for bell ringers. The idea for a marathon kettle drive originated as a way to draw attention to the importance of the Salvation Army.
