Ex-Racine mayor takes plea deal

December 17, 2009 By WRN Contributor

Racine’s former mayor will not be going on trial for internet child porn sex charges. Gary Becker’s attorney has worked out a plea agreement with the Racine County District Attorney’s office, and will take it before a judge next Tuesday, at which time details will be provided.

Becker was arrested mid-January at a Metro- Milwaukee shopping mall, during a state Justice Department sting, for child enticement, attempted sexual assault of a child, and possession of child pornography on his personal computer. He later resigned as Racine’s mayor, underwent sex addiction treatment, and has since been rehabbing houses & doing work for a legal firm. His wife also divorced him.

Gary Becker could be facing time behind bars, probation or a combination with his sentencing early next year. How this plea deal factors into a separate misconduct in public office charge remains to be seen.
