No foul play in Blanchardville fire

December 22, 2009 By Andrew Beckett

The State Fire Marshal says no foul play is suspected in a fatal blaze in Blanchardville that claimed four lives.

Investigators believe the Monday morning fire started in a void between the second and third floors of the building housing the Silver Dollar Bar. They have not been able to determine how it started, but the State Fire Marshal’s office says there’s no evidence it was intentionally set.

The fire claimed the lives of 45-year-old Daniel Hardekopf, 44-year-old Jelayne Hughes, 34-year-old Brian Monte, and 23-year-old Cody Olson. Hardekopf and Hughes owned the Silver Dollar.

The cause of death for all four was smoke inhalation and carbon monoxide poisoning, according to a coroner’s report.
