Accused killer in Eau Claire Co. court

January 27, 2010 By WRN Contributor

The man accused in the murder of Theresa Still had his preliminary hearing Tuesday afternoon. The Eau Claire County courtroom was packed as 44 year old Greg Gubernot of Altoona appeared, shackled, to hear preliminary testimony in his First Degree Intentional Homicide case.

He’s accused of killing Still a month ago, her body was found in a remote part of Adams County on December 30th. District Attorney Rich White’s witnesses included Dr. Robert Corliss, who performed the autopsy on Still, who testified that she was beaten and strangled to death.

Another witness, Eau Claire Police Detective Kristopher O’Neill, told the court about a quarter-sized area of blood or mucus found in the trunk of Still’s vehicle, which was identified through DNA as that of Still. A total of eight witnesses took the stand in the hour plus hearing, after which Judge Michael Schumacher bound Gubernot over for arraignment. The date for that has not been set. Gubernot remains jailed on a million dollar bond.
