Layoff doesn’t hurt Marquette

January 18, 2010 By Bill Scott

After an 8-day layoff, the Marquette Golden Eagles returned to Big East Conference action by pounding Providence 93-63 at the Bradley Center on Sunday.

Maurice Acker scored 15 of his 23 in the second half and Darius Johnson-Odom had 20 of his 22 in the first half and the Golden Eagles hit 13 three-pointers.  Lazar Hayward added 22 points for Marquette (11-6, 2-3 Big East).

Providence struggled offensively and lost their leading scorer and rebounder, Jamine Peterson, who was ejected late in the first half.
