Wisconsin Marine killed in Afghanistan

January 11, 2010 By WRN Contributor

A family member says a Wisconsin Marine was killed in Afghanistan Sunday when the vehicle he was riding in hit a roadside bomb during a patrol. According to Bob Worzalla of Racine, his grandson, 20 year-old Jacob Meinart died at a hospital after the explosion, which also killed a British newsman and an Afghan soldier.

Meinart attended schools in Racine until about age 15, when he moved to Ft. Atkinson with his mother. Worzalla says his grandson, who he called “a real patriot,” joined the Marines when he was 17 and shipped out when he was 18, following in his grandfather’s footsteps. Funeral services for Jacob Meinart are pending.
