Former Brewer looking forward to a fresh start

February 24, 2010 By Bill Scott

The 2009 season was not a memorable one for former Brewer short stop J.J Hardy.  After an all-star campaign in 2007 and a solid 2008, Hardy saw his numbers decline in 2009 earning him a trip back to the minors.  In 2010, Hardy will sport some new threads.

November 6th, 2009 the Milwaukee Brewers sent Hardy to the Minnesota Twins for OF Carlos Gomez.  After months of trade speculation, Hardy was happy to see a deal come to fruition.

The feeling that Hardy’s days were numbered seeped into the minds of Brewers fans most of last season.  The emergence of prospect Alcides Escobar at triple-A Nashville and Hardy’s decline put the wheels in motion.  Hardy is ready for a fresh start.

The deal made sense for both sides; the Twins fill a void at short while the Brewers have a replacement in center field after the departure of free agent Mike Cameron.  Hardy will get a couple of cracks at his former mates:  the Brewers visit Minnesota May 21st-23rd and the Twins are in Brew City June 22nd-24th.
