February 12, 2010 By Bill Scott

Mark JohnsonWisconsin women’s hockey coach Mark Johnson said there are no guarantees, but he believes the U.S. women’s Olympic hockey team, which he is coaching, has a good chance at the gold medal.  Standing in their way in all likelihood is Team Canada.

The Canadian’s had the upper hand on the pre-Olympic Quest Tour, but Johnson said he’s not concerned about that.

Johnson was a part of the men’s 1980 Miracle on Ice team.  He scored two goals in the 4-3 medal-round win over the Soviet Union.

The U.S. last won gold in the 1998 Nagano games.  They then lost to the Canadians in the final of the 2002 Salt Lake City games and then lost again to Sweden in the 2006 semifinals.

The Americans open the games on Sunday against China.
