Koepp’s “confession” called into question

February 2, 2010 By WRN Contributor

The trial of a Janesville man accused of killing a family in 2007 may be wrapping up soon. 51-year-old James Koepp is on trial in Rock County Court for the murders of Danyetta Lentz and her two teenage kids. They were found strangled and stabbed in their mobile home south of Janesville in 2007.

Koepp will not testify on his own behalf. The defense DNA expert is scheduled to testify this morning. Meanwhile Janesville Gazette reporter Ted Sullivan says the credibility of a witness claiming Koepp confessed to the murders has been called into question.

The jury pool is made up of Kenosha County residents after Koepp’s lawyers successfully argued local publicity in the case would interfere with their clients’ right to a fair trial.

Closing arguments could come as soon as the afternoon. If that is the case, the jury could return a verdict as soon as tonight.
