Both Wisconsin men’s teams in the Horizon League suffered home losses on Sunday. Milwaukee‘s 73-66 loss to Butler (18-4, 11-0) was no surprise, but Green Bay’s 84-79 setback against Valparaiso at the Resch Center in Green Bay was a shocker.
Valparaiso trailed by 8 points with just under 5-minutes to play, but scored on their final eight possessions to comeback and win. Five of the eight possessions resulted in three-point field goals.
Unlike earlier in the season, Green Bay’s defense was no where to be found and it cost the Phoenix (15-9, 7-5) their 5th conference loss.
Troy Cotton had 20 points, including six 3-pointers, in the loss. Brandon Wood had a game high 26 points for the Crusaders in the win.
Butler 73, UW-Milwaukee 66
In Milwaukee, the Butler Bulldogs moved a step closer to their 4th straight regular-season Horizon League championship.
Gordon Hayward scored 25 points for the Bulldogs, who won their 10th straight. Butler is off to its best start in league competition.
