The top-ranked and currently unbeaten state Division-1 boys basketball team will likely be tagged with some losses going into the upcoming tournament by an off the court issue involving truancy. An announcement is expected soon on the number of games the Racine Park High School boys’ varsity basketball team may have to forfeit as the result of an investigation into violations of the district’s Athletic Code relating to player truancy.
Under the rules, players must not have an unexcused absence during the week before a contest, and some of the players on the current #1 ranked Panthers apparently did. The announcement on any games being forfeited follows verification of class attendance records.
With the players in question attending classes, a district release indicates they will be eligible for the upcoming tournament, starting next Tuesday. Spokesperson Paul Holley says the WIAA has been monitoring the situation.
