Marquette survives second round of Big East Tournament

March 11, 2010 By Bill Scott

The Marquette Golden Eagles blew a 14-point lead and then held on to beat St. John’s 57-55 in the second round of the Big East Tournament at Madison Square Garden.

The fifth seeded Golden Eagles will now face the fourth-seeded and 10th ranked Villanova Wildcats in today’s Big East quarterfinals.   The game will tip off around 1:30pm today.  Villanova beat Marquette twice during the regular season.

Lazar Hayward hit 4 of 6 three-pointers and finished with game highs of 20 points and 9 rebounds.  But coach Buzz Williams knows his team is going to have to play much better today.
