With much of the state focused on the Badgers in the NCAA tournament on the basketball court and skating in the finals of the WCHA Hockey tournament, a pair of Wisconsin schools looked to earn hardware in Division 3.
The Stevens Point Men’s Basketball squad claimed the D3 National Title Saturday with a 78-73 victory over Williams College. Matt Moses had 22-points to lead the Pointers and earned himself the tournament’s most outstanding player award. It’s Points 3rd title in the last 7-years; they won back-to-back crowns in 2004 and 2005.
The Division Frozen Four also took place over the weekend. St. Norbert fell in the finals 2-1 in double overtime to Norwich College out of Vermont. St. Norbert Goalie B.J O’Brien was named the tournament’s most outstanding player despite the loss. O’Brien’s 70-saves in the final set a NCAA tournament record. It was St. Norbert’s 4th final appearance in the last 7-years.
