Pointers are preseason baseball favorites in WIAC

March 29, 2010 By Bill Scott

The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point has been picked to win the 2010 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) baseball championship in a vote of the league’s Sports Information Directors.

Stevens Point claimed a share of last year’s title with UW-Oshkosh and UW-Whitewater.  The Pointers have won five straight WIAC tournament crowns and have won 25 or more games each of the past 13 seasons.

This year’s roster boasts eight returning starting position players, including senior Jeremy Richter, who claimed the 2009 WIAC Position Player of the Year plaque.  Head coach Pat Bloom is currently one win away from his 200th career victory.

UW-Whitewater is projected to finish second and UW-Oshkosh third.
