University School raps up state hockey championship

March 8, 2010 By Bill Scott

University School started out the high school hockey season losing their first six games.  When the season came to an end on Saturday, the Wildcats were champions.

University School scored the first three goals and then held off top ranked Wausau West to win their second WIAA championship, 5-3 over the Warriors.

University School (18-7-3) finished the season with a 16-game unbeaten streak (15-0-1).  The Warriors ended their season with a runner-up finish and a 27-2-1 record.

River Falls Co-op won the girls title earlier in the day, downing Green Bay East Co-op 5-2.  Green Bay made the state championship game in their very first year on the ice.
