Wood wants expulsion dropped

March 2, 2010 By Bob Hague

A state lawmaker facing three DUI charges has written a resolution asking that efforts to expel him be dropped. Noting that no previous lawmakers, from the leaders involved in the caucus scandal to others who’ve been convicted of drunk driving, have ever faced expulsion, state Representative Jeff Wood, an independent from Bloomer, is asking that he not be held to a different standard than partisan legislators, and that no further action be taken against him by a special committee.

The committee that’s been formed to consider whether to expel Wood plans to hold a public hearing Wednesday morning. The committee is also considering the potential for lesser punishment, such as a reprimand. Wood’s resolution includes references to the past misdeeds and alleged misdeeds of lawmakers going back to 1946.
