It’s hard for many people to imagine a time before the existence of Earth Day, but its founder — Gaylord Nelson — spent years in the US Senate struggling to call attention to the environment, when he suddenly had a “light bulb” moment. “He had a couple of ideas that didn’t really work and finally in 1969 came up with the Earth Day idea…”
