Late home run beats the Brewers

April 10, 2010 By Bill Scott

Nick Stavinoha’s 2-run pinch hit homer in the 9th off of closer Trevor Hoffman gave the St. Louis Cardinals a 5-4 come from behind win over the Milwaukee Brewers at Miller Park on Friday night.

The home run came in Stavinoha’s first plate appearance of the season.

It’s the first blow save of the season for Hoffman (0-1), who converted his first two save chances this season.

Matt Holliday also clubbed a 2-run homer for the Cardinals, in the 6th off of starter Dave Bush, to pull St. Louis to within one run (4-3).  Bush did a number on one of baseball’s best hitters, Albert Pujols.  Pujols went 0 for 3 with a strikeout.

Game 2 of the series is this afternoon.
