Racine looks to settle on discrimination claim

April 1, 2010 By WRN Contributor

City leaders in Racine look to settle a job discrimination complaint from the former administrative assistant to the former mayor. The $50,000 recommended settlement includes compensatory damages for what documents say was “the result of physical contact” Sandra Tingle alleged by former Mayor Gary Becker in the workplace, “but of which the city denies any knowledge.”

Current Mayor John Dickert and aldermen won’t go beyond a public statement, while Deputy City Attorney Scott Letteny says taxpayers will have to cover part of the settlement.

The Executive Committee’s recommended settlement will still need approval by the Racine City Council who will take it up April 7th.

Tingle resigned almost two years ago and now lives in England, while Becker was sent to prison last month for internet child porn sex-related convictions.
