Police in Oak Creek have fatally shot a suspect who was found in the driver’s seat of a squad car. Police Chief Tom Bauer says the suspect was believed to have burglarized a home, and then was checking other homes in the same vicinity when a citizen reported the activity, leading to the suspect’s car being chased and crashing into a business in nearby Caledonia.
Following the crash and a foot chase around the commercial site, Chief Bauer says the officer found the suspect behind the wheel of the squad. After ordering suspect to leave the car, two officers fired upon the suspect.

Both officers are on administrative leave. One is a 14-year veteran with the other having 10-years of law enforcement experience. The 48-year old suspect, a man from Racine, had a criminal record for burglary.
Oak Creek and Caledonia Police are working a joint investigation, while the Racine and Milwaukee County District Attorneys’ offices are also coordinating reviews of the case.
